Ancient Warfare Newsletter January 2008

Dear [NAME],

It's been a while since the last newsletter. We've been quite busy and then there were the Holidays too. We hope the new year finds you well and eager for more Ancient Warfare magazine.

This email has been sent to [EMAIL]. If it was not meant for you, please refer to the instructions at the bottom of this newsletter.

Website

In the meantime, we have redesigned and relaunched our website. We believe the layout is much improved and the site is easier to navigate. Of course with such a big change it is possible that one or more links do not work properly. If you find one, please let us know so we can fix it. And if you like the new site, go ahead and let us know that too. We like to hear from you.

Be a General

The mail crush of those same holidays has caused extra havoc with delivery of Ancient Warfare 4-2007 to our US subscribers. It is for that reason that we are extending the deadline on the Xenophon edition of 'Be a General' to February 14th. So if you haven't yet, go ahead and This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your solution. There's a copy of Phil Sidnell's Warhorse for the winner, thanks to Continuum books.

Editor's blog

On the new site you'll now find a blog as well. I've been fairly diligent at keeping it up since mid-December and quite like doing it. In it, I'll try to keep you up-to-date on what's going on behind the scenes, release some ideas and plans that aren't news yet and various other things that jump into my head. For now, it's probably mostly the latter.

Podcasts

Starting soon, you'll also find a link on the site to the podcasts that we're setting up together with The History Network. Beginning this Sunday we'll record a discussion among some of the authors who wrote articles in the next issue. I'm quite excited about this and hope it'll provide interesting listening.

Binder

It's already up on the website: we have finalized the binder design and ordered a few hundred of them. They are now available for pre-order and should be leaving our office in the second week of February. A binder will easily hold six issues - one year - of Ancient Warfare. The highly detailed illustration on the cover is an extended version of Igor Dzis' painting of the battle of Strasbourg from Ancient Warfare I.3. The cover comes with a gloss laminate for protection.
The binder holds the magazines by way of a thin, coated metal rod, which makes inserting every issue a breeze. Moreover from our tests it seems to be a great and safe way to protect your magazines.

Ancient Warfare 1-2008

The first issue of the new year is being rounded off as we speak and will then go into print. Distribution will start in the week of February 11th. The extensive summary of that issue's contents is already on the site. Make sure you get it!

Subscription renewals

I've had some questions about subscription renewals already. Good to hear!
Some readers thought their subscription ran through 2007 only. Not so: your subscription always runs for six issues, so no subscriptions will run out until after the second issue of this year.
And to answer another question: there will be no automatic renewal for now. It may be possible to arrange that later, but for now you will have to go through our site to buy a renewal to your subscription. It will run out and end automatically otherwise.
In the very near future - probably by the time you read this - a renewal option will be made available in our store. An attractive offer may be in the offing...
