III-1 & 2Image

Ancient Warfare III-1 (War as a livelihood: Mercenaries in the Ancient World) is on its way to subscribers worldwide. I have just seen the first copies and I think it's a particularly good looking and interesting issue. We’ve raised the bar a bit once again, hopefully we can keep it up for this third year of AW. The contents of this issue are:

Issue II-6

With the next issue, we jump forward a few thousand years in time (relative to II-5, that is), to land squat in the middle of Rome's most difficult period: the 3rd century AD. Under attack from the outside of the empire, pretenders to the throne from the inside and a rising tax burden to maintain an ever more expensive army almost brought the Roman empire to a halt. We'll be looking at the soldiers guarding the Limes, campaigns in Mesopotamia, transformational emperors and some of the heroes on the front. Make sure your subscription is up to date or buy issue II-6 as a single issue from our online store.

Issue II-5Image

Issue II-5 is almost done, just a few more little things to take care of. Expect to have it 'thump' (a little more than before?) on your doormat from about mid-October. This time we'll have among others articles on warfare in Sumer and Babylon, Assyrian siege technology, the battle of Megiddo, the Siege of Hatra and Roman intelligence gathering on the 'Eastern front'. Make sure you renew your subscription in time or buy it as a single issue from our online store.

Issue II-4&5

Issue II-4 has reached European subscribers by now and should fall on the mat of worldwide subscribers any day now. At our office work is in full swing on II-5, which focusses on warfare in the Ancient Near East. Chronologically this issue will offer the greatest range yet, from the dawn of historical warfare to (in a special) the invasion of Britain by the Angles and Saxons. Issue II-5 will go into print late September and should reach subscribers in mid October. It should contain a nice surprise as well, so make sure you get it!
